Where
I'm From
I'm
from 63rd and Jefferson
Where the trees blow and the guns pop
Where the thugs live and the gangs kill
I'm
from the hard streets of West Philly
not in the projects but in a three story
house that holds my background.
And from everything I came.
I'm
from the womb of Darlene Miller,
made from the sperm of Bruce Miller.
I'm from the warm air and the
bright sun shines everyday.
I'm
from the story of
a black woman and black man
that were blessed to have a
young beautiful lady.
I'm
from the block
that will never be bored.
But where some people
are whores.
I'm
from a household
where the truth is always
preached to me, but I
don't listen because I'm stubborn.
I'm from a childhood that
has matured into a young adult.
I'm
from a place of love
that helps encourage
my action. And where the love
has come to grow from a
girl to a woman.
I'm
from a family that helps
you in a time of need.
Where laughter is caught and captured.
Where sadness is turned into joy
and pain is erased from the brain.
Where
I'm from is who I am.
And who I am is where I'm from.
