Call for Papers

As you read through Perspectives, we hope you will be inspired to share your work with the journal. Below is the call for papers for the next issue. We hope to hear from you!

Call for Papers: Volume 5, Issue 2

Volume 5, Issue 2 – "Order in Schools: Perspectives on Discipline and Control"

Teachers and parents often rank “discipline” as their primary concern in school opinion polls and studies.  Discipline can be referred to as both prevention and remediation of behavior. It is about order, and control in schools.  In the post-9/11 atmosphere of fear and the aftermath of recent school massacres such as at Virginia Tech, this topic also concerns safety and surveillance.
Volume 5, Issue 2 of Penn GSE Perspectives on Urban Education will focus on discipline and control in urban schools.  Submissions can address a wide range of issues, from the rise of “zero tolerance” policies, to classroom practices, to “school safety,” to student and teacher relationships. We look forward to presenting perspectives from across the spectrum on this issue to create a critical and engaging dialog on the topic.

Please include an abstract with your APA formatted submission and send to journal@gse.upenn.edu.

Deadline for submissions: November 5th, 2007
