Lisa M. Jilk

Lisa M. Jilk is a doctoral student in the Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University. Her academic interests include immigrant identity formation and mathematics teaching for equity and social justice in urban schools. Prior to graduate school, Jilk spent ten years teaching high school mathematics in Minnesota and most recently in California, where she worked predominantly with English Language Learners.

The author would like to thank Helen Featherstone, James Gray, Karen Lowenstein and Lynn Paine for their initial readings and edits of this article as well as their encouragement to submit it for publication.
