Maia Cucchiara

Maia Bloomfield Cucchiara is a Ph.D. candidate in Education and Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research interests include privatization in education, family-school relationships, and the social contexts of urban education. Maia has an M.A. in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and taught elementary school for three years. Previously, she worked in New Orleans and rural Louisiana as a community organizer and literacy trainer. Maia is currently working on a dissertation exploring African American parents' perceptions of various school reform strategies.
